System Upgrades & Benefits

SERV-IS-LITE II/MB Longwall Lighting systems are designed for hard use in the hazardous environment of an underground mine. The system provides safe, reliable, low-glare, even illumination along the entire longwall face. This robust system, with improved brass connectors, has been re-engineered to provide trouble-free operation in harsh, wet conditions. SERV-IS-LITE II/MB has been evaluated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration and meets the applicable requirements of Title 30 Code of Federal Regulations, Section 18.68. This system is approved for use in Pennsylvania.

Cable & Connectors

Brass, re-usable, staple-lok connections

Near-ceramic, non-absorbing inserts

Gold plated, constant contact pins

Rugged #12/3 cable from power pack to luminaire

Standard cable lengths simplify inventory requirements

Our "MB" cabling connectors provide rugged, watertight, "mineduty" electrical connection from our power-pack to the luminaire. The connectors are tested (pull-apaprt) to 450 psi to ensure reliable operation.

We can provide our unique "Fault Monitor" at the end of the system providing improved phase loss and short circuit protection.

Magnetic mounting option for tee

In-line connector to join various lengths of cable

End-mounted terminator ensures power integrity

Luminaire & Base

The luminaire assembly is MSHA certified and explosion-proof, but still rugged and lightweight. A special mirrored reflector and improved solid-state circuitry provides more effective light output than our earlier models. Individual lights can be replaced without turning the entire system off. The Luminaire is designed to quickly snap in or out of the mounting base which saves time during longwall moves or maintenance. This also allows the light to be borrowed to provide illumination of nearby equipment. The fixture can be relamped at the face or in the maintenance shop.

The standard mounting base includes two specially designed retaining clips that lock the Luminaire into position. It fits the same bolt pattern as our original SERV-IS-LITE II. Popular options are the dual or quad mounting magnets that provide quick movement when needed, but also keep the lamp securely against the shield.

Adjustable light direction

Effective light output

Low glare illumination

Explosionproof, waterproof

Solid-state electronics

Snap-in/out mounting

Low profile

Brass, right-angle connection

Staple-lok connections

Lighting Power Pack

Individual lights are powered by an intrinsically safe 12 Volt DC power supply. Each supply is rated at 15 amperes and can feed four lights. The standard MSHA explosion proof enclosure contains two power supplies. "Power On" and "12 Volt DC Output" LED indicators are provided to indicate the operational circuits. They are visible through the enclosure cover plate.

The input power cable is supplied with SMC's field proven, MSHA certified, explosion proof cable and gear mounted Lighting Connector Series. The receptacle has gold plated Multi-lam inserts which provide multiple contact points, lower losses and trouble free service. The mal plug is provided with a spring loaded index pin for easy alignment.

Electro-Hydraulic Power Supply

For a fully integrated face electrical system, SMC offers a 5 ampere, 12 Volt DC, intrinsically safe power supply for use with Electro-Hydraulic Shield Controls. This improved, "clean" power supply is highly regulated to assure optimum performance for your electro-hydraulic system. It is designed to be connected in series with the main power cable supplying the lighting system, eliminating the need for a separate supply cable routed down the face. The circuit provides a constant output through severe start-up and operating conditions.

System Upgrades and Retrofits

The "MB" cabling system was designed as an upgrade/retrofit for our standard SERV-IS-LITE II products as well as for new installations. An existing system can continue to use the main power cable for the power-packs, as retrofits are done to smaller sections of the lighting system.
