Medium Voltage Variable Frequency Drives

The ability to fully control the speed of conveyors and the operational flexibility that an AC Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) provides the mine operator is an essential requirement for today’s high production mines. Operators have tried to utilize existing VFDs designed for other industrial markets with mixed results. SMC recognized the need for a medium voltage product designed for mining that would meet the harsh environmental conditions, critical space restrictions, unstable power systems and ever increasing horsepower demands of today’s mines. With input from valued customers the SMC Engineering team developed the medium voltage Microdrive ML and MH series VFD Product Lines.

Designed for Mining

This product incorporates the latest technology components, employs an innovative thermal management system and meets or exceeds all of our original design goals. Since its initial offering it has been welcomed with enthusiasm by the mining Industry. It is approximately one-third the size of existing industrial VFDs. It’s small, rugged design and user friendly powerful computer controls provide mining with a real answer to their production and operating demands.
SMC’s Microdrive not only meets the extreme application demands of underground mining but it can be used in surface applications as well, including pumps, material handling and fans. Since the drive is designed to be small and to withstand rough handling, unstable electrical power and harsh environmental conditions, it will most certainly provide incredible benefits to customers in mining and industrial markets.
